TITLE: Sr. Lead Architects & Engineers/Contractors Professional Liability Underwriter

WORK LOCATION(s):  Chicago, IL, Mt Kisco, NY, New York, NY or Atlanta, GA (Up to 10% regional travel only)

HYBRID:  Hybrid (minimum 2 days on-site)

SALARY: $130-$160K (DOE)

Citizenship Requirements: Must be US Citizen or Green Card Holder

Staff to oversee: There is no leadership responsibility, just a heavy hitter by establishing a new line of business, and AECP underwriting skills.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

We are looking for a Sr. Level, experienced, well-established AECP Underwriter who not only knows how to underwrite the class professionally but also has significant contacts with producers in the industry, thus enabling meaningful production results.

Must have Architects & Engineers/Contractors Professional Liability Underwriter experience and work very well with brokers.

Do you enjoy creative problem-solving and working independently in a collaborative team environment? Proven ability to underwrite both Architects, Engineers, and Contractors Professional is strongly required.

Our client’s Cyber & Professional Lines Group seeks a Sr. Lead AECP (Architects & Engineers/Contractors Professional) Underwriter to join their Architects & Engineers and Contractors Professional Liability Team in Chicago, IL, Mt Kisco, NY, New York, NY or Atlanta, GA, regional office location. This position will report to the Vice President of Underwriting.

The Architects & Engineers and Contractors Liability products are designed to provide coverage for specified professionals. As professionals, architects, engineers, scientists, and contractors face potential liabilities that place them at considerable financial risk because of the type and quality of services they deliver to their clients.

Our next priority is to find the Heavy Hitter AECP Underwriter position for Chicago, ATL, or NY only.  They must have a strong broker relationship, marketing still to grow the portfolio, a big following amongst retail brokers in PLAN or aeProNet, and strong AECP underwriting experience.  Three to five years of relevant and progressive underwriting experience in Architects & Engineers and Contractors Professional Liability or related areas.

• Real, proven AECP experience – a true underwriter background with the ability to generate/write good new business.
• Both AE and CP experience a plus
• A big following amongst retail brokers in PLAN or aeProNet
• Managerial experience preferred
• Marketing experience / Heavy Hitter

The goal for the team is to grow the market as it has been revolving, and our client is looking to place its footprint within Chicago, ATL, and NY. 

 Comp range: 115,000 – 160,000 *Please keep in mind it is based on the location and experience*

Position Overview

This is a new role on the team and there no other Business Development Representatives on this team so the AECP will not inherit a book of business. The AECP Underwriter must be well experienced in establishing new lines of business.

Under general supervision, identifies, develops, and maintains strategic relationships with current and potential producers of profitable business for the company within assigned marketing region. The Sr. Lead AECP Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal business and growing their individual portfolio of accounts and developing relationships between our key customers and our underwriters to achieve our teams shared objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Responsible for developing new business opportunities through outside sales and marketing to brokers within assigned territory. Initial close watch on relationships to assess if company should continue new business relationships.
• Manage and increase existing blocks of business. Develop a strong relationship with broker through onsite visits and resolving client issues in a timely fashion.
• Underwrite and grow your own portfolio of both Architects and Engineers and Contractors Professional Accounts.
• Work with our claims staff and panel counsel to provide value-added services and assistance to our insureds.
• Foster additional business opportunities through writing of correspondence and attending trade shows.
• Conduct sales calls to cultivate and maintain long-term client relationships.
• Monitor competitor pricing and industry trends to identify marketplace characteristics. Keep abreast of the industry trends.
• Monitor producer quote ratio, close-ratio, renewal persistency, and loss ratio. Adapt marketing strategy as needed.
• Responsible for keeping the Underwriting staff informed on current and prospective client status as well as industry trends and direct information on our competitors. Motivate and support the Underwriting department in meeting the annual departmental goals.
• Work closely with the Vice President of Underwriting and the Senior Vice President of Underwriting on new and existing business decisions. Keep abreast of the industry trends.
• Develop and implement specific marketing strategies and materials.

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements

Education:

• 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in Business, Finance, Law, Marketing, Science, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or the equivalent education and/or experience
• Six Years of relevant and progressive professional experience.
• Proven ability to underwrite both Architects and Engineers and Contractors Professional.
• Possess and have the ability to apply broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
• Exceptional organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to applicable area of the Company’s business to proactively respond to changing business environment
• Advanced proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office Package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
